The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Pakistan

The Internet has changed the world. There’s been a huge shift in people’s perspectives and thinking. Nowadays, the way we socialize, interact, and perceive information depends greatly on digital technology.

It doesn’t happen over a month or two. Technology has created this shift very gradually. Over the last few years, artificial intelligence has also had a drastic impact on our lives.

The world is shifting and moving forward with the latest technology. Advancements in the world of science, aviation, engineering, media, and other fields are impeccable.

In this blog, we will discuss the scope of AI in Pakistan. Read below to find interesting details about our country’s future in terms of technology.

    What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

AI, or artificial intelligence, has bases in computer science. It is a field of computers. It generally focuses on developing machines.

But these machines or software aren’t simple. They are intelligent and super geniuses. These machines are capable of performing high-efficiency tasks.

Moreover, they can also work or act like human beings. Their functions are broad. It includes learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making.

AI encompasses various subfields, some of which are as follows:

    • Machine learning
    • Natural language processing
    • Computer vision
    • Robotics

    AI in Pakistan: the present

In the last couple of years, Pakistan has made very noteworthy achievements in the field of AI. These include:

Finance: Financial institutions in Pakistan are using AI for fraud detection, risk assessment, and algorithmic buying and selling. AI-driven chatbots are also used for customer support.

AI in Healthcare: AI is making inroads into Pakistan’s healthcare sector, with platforms like Sehat Kahani leveraging AI to connect lady doctors to underserved communities via telemedicine.

AI in Agriculture: Pakistan’s agricultural region, a cornerstone of the economy, is experiencing a technological renaissance through AI-driven solutions. For example, agritech startups like Ricult are leveraging AI to empower farmers. Ricult is a mobile application that offers farmers personalized recommendations for crop management based on climate data, soil conditions, and market trends. This not only optimizes resource usage but also increases crop yields and ensures meal security, addressing a critical nationwide need.

Education: AI-driven e-learning systems and educational apps have gained popularity. These systems offer personalized learning experiences and help students access quality education remotely.

Retail: E-commerce companies in Pakistan use AI for recommendation systems, inventory management, and customer service chatbots. This improves the shopping experience and the efficiency of operations.

Energy: The energy sector in Pakistan can benefit from AI in grid management, energy consumption optimization, and predictive maintenance for power plants and infrastructure.

Transportation: AI can help optimize transportation networks, enhance traffic control, and guide the development of autonomous vehicles.

Government and Public Services: AI is utilized in areas like identification verification, data analysis for policy-making, and e-governance initiatives to enhance government services.

    AI professionals in Pakistan

While the scope of AI in Pakistan is promising, the largest challenge in leveraging AI in business and other obligations is the skill gap. As the use of AI is spreading very rapidly, the professionals who can serve market needs in this field are, as yet, in short supply.

Given this skill gap, several universities have launched degree programs in AI (BS, MS, and PhD). Different education institutions have launched boot camps to address the shortage of AI specialists in the market. The government is also taking stepstrain people in the field of AI by launching degree programs in public-sector universities.
